Well you have hung in here this far because you want to Buy a Car and SAVE MONEY! Do not stop following me now! This lesson will be one of the Most Important you learn. Following this will help you get a good deal before ever going down to the dealership!

NOTE: DO NOT tell them if you have a trade until later. Do not tell them if you plan on financing with them until later! I will tell you when to tell them you have a trade and may finance.

Your initial contact to a dealer must accomplish 3 things!
1-Open a line of friendly communication.
2-Let them know you are a serious buyer.
3-Put the initial control into your hands!

Your initial contact should be through Email only! If you get an auto responder that says the dealer's computer is down or whatever and to please call them for help move on to the next dealer it is very important you take control now!

Your initial contact should be through a 3rd party like InvoiceDealers.com, Edmunds.com , UsedCars.com etc. This will help show you did your research.  ALWAYS provide your real information! Failing to do so could cause dealers not to take you serious and that cost you money! So real name, real Email and real Phone #.

Now whether you are Buying a New Car or a Used Car the process will differ. I have broken them down separately below.

BUYING a NEW CAR
-Get the printouts for your 3 cars!
-Now you are going to go to Edmunds.com , Automotive.com , and InvoiceDealers.com and request a quote from 3 different dealers near your area for each car. Mix these 3 sites up for your request. So you will have a total of 9 quote request for Buying your Car! I have put the verbiage for your initial request below! Make sure you spec the car out for your quote just like you did for your research.
-Make sure to enter the correct Name, Email and Phone number. We need them to know we are serious buyers and not just jerking them around.
-Use the verbiage below and follow this step afterwards skip below the USED CARS section and continue along the path to a great deal.

Please provide me with what the MSRP is of the car as well as the price you will sell me the car at before any rebates or incentives. Also please provide me with a breakdown of all fees you charge.  I will be getting a quote from several dealers in the area. I want to thank you in advance for this helpful information. I wish to communicate by Email until getting my choices narrowed down.

Thank you,
YOUR NAME "

Buying a Used Car
-Get the printouts for the cars you found on UsedCars.com, or Cars.com.
-Now go back to UsedCars.com and Cars.com and search for the vehicles you found. You should find them again and you should also find at least one car for each car that you have already found that is very similar. So now you will have a total of six  used cars.

AFTER SENDING YOUR QUOTE REQUEST!

Congratulations we just made contact with the dealers and told them how we wanted this deal to go!

So here is what is going to happen next you are going to start getting some Email from the dealers. Probably a auto responder thanking you for your quote and asking you to call if you need immediate attention will come first. A few of the dealerships that do not listen to your wishes are going to call you! This is very IMPORTANT so LISTEN! If they call you need to make sure you maintain control. The reason for them calling is they are trying to establish control in this situation and get you down to the dealership and grind on you! Below you will find the response to give them when they call! After that it is broken back down into answers for the NEW CAR Buyer and for the USED CAR buyer.

We used sites like  Edmunds.com ,UsedCars.com Automotive.com , Yahoo! Autos , InvoiceDealers.com to help establish control and it is important we maintain that!

What to say if the dealership calls you anyways after your request.

" Their Name, I appreciate your call and assure you that if I need anything immediate I will call you. Also if I should come by the dealership I would ask for you. I specifically asked in my request to be contacted by Email only until I hade made further decisions and I would greatly appreciate if you would send me the information I requested and follow my wishes of communicating by Email until I am ready for the next step. Thank you for your time and I will be in touch."

It is very important to say this in a friendly but stern manner. We do not want to hack them off or for them to see us a huge jerks but rather establish that we are going to do this deal our way and we will be in control. If they start asking questions and you have not had the chance to give the above response wait for their question to finish and give the above response. If you have already given this response and they continue to ask question etc. just firmly remind them they are violating your wishes and that you will not buy from a dealer that can not listen.

Below you will see some things that may happen and responses for those things. It is important to maintain control!

After the New Car Quote Request is sent.

Dealerships Actions Your actions in response
1-You receive an auto response. 1-Nothing, wait for the next Email.
2-An Email with info on the dealership asking you to call them so they can get some more information.
2-Reply and state once again you wish to communicate by Email and are looking for the information you requested.
3-They send you information on the wrong vehicle. 3- They do this a lot! Reply and state that that is not the vehicle you requested and to please Email you information on the vehicle from your initial request.
4-They ask you more questions. 4-Reply and thank them for their questions and state that your just looking for the information from your initial request.(They ask question trying to take control)
5-They send you the information you requested. 5- Go to the next step!

The goal is not to really give them any more information until you are ready. They may ask questions or ask for your request again etc. all of this is in attempt to create time and for them to take control. So push to get the information you requested, how you requested in a timely manner. If a dealership is extremely hard and seems like they will not give you the information, mark them off the list of dealers you are dealing with and move on! There are several dealers on these quote sites that want your business!
