The Guy that did not know when to shut up!
It was a Saturday morning and we were pushing for a big day. I had one of my salespeople come up to me in the tower and tell me about this customer he had that was being a jerk and he could not get control of. I did what I usually do and told my salesperson to stop being a weak stick and go get this guy. 3 minutes later my salesperson was standing in my tower with the customer in tow. So I introduced my self and this guy was one of the biggest a--wholes I have ever met. Once again it was a challenge and this is what I lived for this wan my forte.

I sit him down and started negotiating with him. The truck he wanted was the only one like it in a 500 mile radius but the catch 22 is it was a bastard. No one wanted this thing but for some reason this guy did. Well he was well educated he knew my invoice on this truck and he knew I had it on the lot for a while. Some how he even knew my exact holdback. That is not found easily so my guess is he had a inside source. I was willing to sell him the truck at invoice but he wanted it at dead cost. The truth is I would sell it at dead cost just to move it I mean this beast had been there over a year. I understand the importance of a fresh face though. So I went and found the GM of the dealer group and told him the situation and then I said go split the difference with this guy and lets make the deal.

As he turned to walk out I said oh yeah this guy is a big a--whole. He stopped turned to me and said how big? I said one of the biggest I have ever dealt with. Then he said I am going to go down and blow this guy out and asked me if he could. I responded with well your the GM of the dealer group do what you want. Here is the thing The GM never lets a deal walk. Ever!

So here he goes down. I introduce him and the guy gets this smirk on his face. He could smell victory. The Gm talks to him for a minute and then the guy hits him for the number. The GM looks at the guy and says listen I am not making any money here (which for once was the truth) but I need to move this truck so here is what I will do. I do not want to do this but I will and before the GM could say anything else the guy decided to be an a-- one more time and he says "I don't want you to do anything you don't want to do" and smirks. I swear I watched the GM's head explode as he stood up and said "you know I was trying to be nice but your an a-- so if you want this truck your will pay me invoice plus $100 for it now otherwise have a nice day." The look on this guys face was worth a million bucks!

His wife and he walked out and you could tell he looked like man I should have shut up. They left and my GM went and locked himself in his office to rage. The number I had given the guy before bringing out the GM was invoice - $100. So about 30 minutes later the guy calls me on the phone and says hey I will come get the truck at the $100 below invoice like you had said. Well I understand the food chain and I was high on it but the GM of the dealer group was higher and well The GM said $100 over. I still wanted to make the deal though and I knew the GM never passed one up. So I go into his office and tell him about the call. He said "you tell that -----sucker no way!, Tell him $1000.00 over invoice." So I made the call and said sir you insulted the GM and here is the deal. He was blown away but I stressed that he did this to himself by not shutting up and being rude. This guy called me 4 more times after this within the next hour each time raising his offer $100. Finally I said well I am $300 above invoice on a year old unit the GM can be mad at me and told him to come get the truck before I changed my mind.

So in the end this guy being Mr. Cocky and not knowing when to shut up cost himself about $600.
